JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WJ - FRONT BUMPER
This project has been developed with the intention of creating a bumper model for Jeep WJ that "clear" and "pick up" the entire front of the vehicle with a discreet and attractive aesthetic.
Generally the bumpers for Jeep WJ are usually too big and do not allow to reach the optimum angle of attack so sought after in the preparations because they protrude too much from the front. This is due to the location of some elements of the vehicle that have to be protected and that do not allow the provision of a fine and tight bumper that allows reaching that angle. Our proposal is to clear the front part by repositioning the windscreen wiper reservoir and the internal vacuum lung located in the front wheel arches, thus clearing the area and placing them in a safer place such as the engine compartment.
Once these elements are relocated we already have the necessary free space to increase the work area of the wheels and thus improve their effectiveness and maneuverability.
Another aspect that greatly improves the angle of attack is the minimum overhang that this bumper supposes.
If we compare this design with other bumpers, we will see that it protrudes half the size of other models from the front. It excels barely 10cm in front of the calender compared to the 20 / 22cm that most models stand out for WJ. This is an important aspect when tackling steep steps and ditches since the more tight the bumper is the more you can approach the wheels to the obstacle to cross when they have a considerable height.
On the other hand, another of the highlights of this design is its complete support system.
The Jeep WJ is built on a lightweight monocoque, so a poor grip on a bumper can easily deform or tear in intensive use, especially when using slings.
The main supports are equipped with 6 vertical M12 screws for fastening to the monocoque spar (at the bottom) and dissipating fatigue on it in impacts and overexertions, 3 horizontal M12 screws (on the side of the spar) to block the lever effect exerted by the winch or the sling when dragging a load at unfavorable angles and 2 M12 screws to attach the bumper.
At first sight it may be surprising that the bumper is fastened with 2 screws and the support with 6. This detail is due to the material of the stringer of the vehicle is 1.2mm thick, so it is convenient to distribute the effort transferred to the crossbar with different attachment points in order to dissipate fatigue. The base of the bumper is 5mm thick, so it is not necessary to reinforce this joint.
The interior sandwiches reinforce the hold by the inside of the crossbar forming a block with the whole set screwed together. Also included are 2 custom-made supports for the bonnet's upright.
With this mounting system you can pull with the winch or tie the sling with complete peace of mind, even in the most complicated situations.
Finally, the protector will close the whole below leaving the radiator completely protected and ventilated.
